The Keeper’s Fare

The poster, somewhat worse for age, did little but whet Gin’s curiosity. The title itself was so ambiguous, I remember the many debates we had over its meaning, and this advertisement was of little help. Sure, it seemed to throw out the possibility of a romance—though not entirely—but it added new angles to the title neither of us had yet considered.

There was a shadowy figure at its center, the titular Keeper, we agreed, and in the yellow beams of his lantern, the artist seemed to have captured the glare and blindness of looking straight into a light.
