Post-Mortem | Update

Well, I think I’ve moved all of two copies of Post-Mortem so far. Somewhat underwhelming numbers, but not unexpected. That’s still two copies. Two books out there of my own in the hands of—well, I suspect I know the fellows who bought them; can’t rightly call them strangers. I can at least say they’re not family; my family has standards which do not involve horror.

I know what I don’t know, or, more specifically, that I don’t know how to sell books. I think, roughly, I can write them, that is, I am happy with the product I’ve made down to the typesetting (a rather troublesome affair). I’m still learning, or trying to learn, how to garner an interest.

That’s neither here nor there, though. I want to talk about what I intend to do with the story. Post-Mortem can stand on its own, but there were bits that never made it onto the page, dark matter that affected the tale my characters spun, but they weren’t giving the whole truth. There are two more books I’d like to add to this story: I’ve outlined one and started planning out the other.

The first, as the outline stands now, would be a companion piece to Post-Mortem, retelling the story from a different perspective and giving a far broader scope than the internal constraints of my novella allowed. It would start further back, and would give me a chance to explore more of the world while unveiling some of the hidden parts of the first story.

The other, the one I’m still planning out, would be more of a lore book. I have a general overarching plot that would allow for a sort of battle of storytelling to take place. As such, though the framing device would take place after Post-Mortem, about half or more of the stories would take place before, long before. Anyway, some of the framing device and a few of the short stories are already written. Many of them are planned out, and if God is gracious, I will find time to write them down and publish them one day.

There you have my general idea—not a promise, mind—of what I want to do with this world of vampires of mine. Vampires have long been one of my favorite monsters, and I am ever haunted by a particular image, rain falling over a city and a man trying to get away. My blog is full of different versions of this story, and very often a vampire appears before I finish the tale. For me, it is perennial, and as such, I shall probably be writing it forever. I can never quite bleed it all out of me. Hopefully, one day, I can find an audience who’ll be as entranced by that image as I am.

Psst! Hey kid, wanna buy a book?
