Flight

As she embraced me, her cold, dead skin soothed the burning fever of my dying flesh. Her kiss, upon my neck, sharp only a moment, sucked all the pain away. Faint and dizzy, the world swirled and danced, fading into a madness of colors; the mists of rain fell like a rainbow about us as the sunbeams stabbed down upon our revelry.

She burst with one short screeching cry, leaping from me, but it was too late for us both. Day had caught her unaware, and as I sank into a senseless death, she was burned away, ashes and dust.
