Dreary Weather

For a moment, the fog lessened, and he thought he might see their faces. Then, deep clouds rolled back in.

“Speak!” he shouted in his blindness, lifting his clenched fists. “I would know why! Why have you stood aloof so long? Why did you frighten my childhood with your harsh stares? Why did you chill my blood on my wedding night? Why, when I had all the world, did you silent sentinels appear? Always silent, always some image, and now in the flesh I find you as my own flesh fails. Just some word before I go, some explanation, please!”
