To the Jury

In times not quite forgotten yet,
when the sun still shone
before the light of reason set
and darkness stole the Throne,
I think I was then but a child
who played in fairytales
of truth, justice, things now reviled
but even then called stale.
A fallen pillar had first to quake
a man had first to lie
and how, pray tell, are we to take
a crocodile's cry?
