Softer than down feathers
the gentle sky's kisses
like tears and sweet release
warm rain upon my face
Summer storms and lightning flashes
thunder rolls—this also passes.
In time the world falls down to ashes.
Till then, on earth, the rain amasses.
Never full, the ocean gathers
all tears of sorrow or of laughter.
A setting sun, in smoke and rain,
sets me aching with the story's pain.
The yellow monarchs flutter by
like dreams there floating in the sky.
'Midst rain & thunder, their gentle wings
uphold them through all of these things.
