What makes a man? A strange question. Often, pain is the answer. Struggle, always. Man is a monster of one leg and needs, if he is to get around, something of opposition. Often, that is his wife. A man finds a good woman, and suddenly, he can run. Circumstances also challenge him. We are all of us half-creatures. See, even in our biology, we are divided by symmetry into the right and the left. Two arms, two legs, a cleft brain. We are also, then, in our souls, many halfs of a thing searching for each other to become whole.
