A Hundred Sails Unfurled

A hundred sails unfurled
A thousand waves had past
hope born for a new world
for something that would last.

The storms that rocked and raged
had spent themselves away,
so then all hands engaged
in setting sail that day.

O glistening sea, O mighty ship,
O faithful, fearless men,
my dreams, invaded by your trip—
yet here I wake again.
