Let Loose the Memes of War

Do you ever get the feeling that this isn’t about reason? Terror seldom is. One political faction warns that if the jury does not decide against Rittenhouse, there will be riots and looting and death. This is no idle threat. It was in just such a riot that Rittenhouse distinguished himself.

Do we now replace our disabled Lady, with her balanced scales and tightly bound blindfold? Do we cast aside our old traditions for this wicked doppelganger calling itself Social Justice? Shall we now uphold grievance mongering and partiality? No more façades. Let us call a spade a spade. Will we be just or unjust?

My blood boils. I am spitting mad, going insane. Shall law and order be threatened by riots? I reply through gritted teeth, “Let there be a thousand more. Let a thousand Rittenhouses arise. Let them be armed with tanks and machine guns and give them air support.” If the police have abdicated, let a militia come.

So cries my rage, not for peace, but war. Shall I invite Ares because I fear his coming?

Truly, I do not want there to be war, and yet, when one side stands against open dialogue and calls the basic principles of reason by that now meaningless invective of “Racism,” what option is there but violence?

There is one place, I think, we can fall back to before bloodshed, before further bloodshed, before the dams are loosed and this trickle becomes a flood, and it is the one thing the Devil cannot stand: Laughter. Good honest humor. We must pick up our arms: Sarcasm and satire, wit and mockery. There seems little else.

Let us meme.
