O Sirens, Sing!

BY DR. AGONSON

O Sirens, sweetly sing—I’ve heard it all before
and love no more the tasteless tastes
and sightless sights I now abhor.
O Sirens, sweetly sing, but still I flee your shore.
I’ve seen how such love wastes
and leads men to the ocean floor.
O Sirens, gently call. I yet will hear the sound
when mournful wind carries your sigh,
when far from here I am unbound.
O Sirens, gently call. One day I may be found
returning here when I must die,
to fin’lly run my ship aground.
Sweet Sirens, beckon me; I still shall sail away.
I’ll know no more of doomy love;
I’ll dream no more that I should stay.
Sweet Sirens, beckon me. I care not how you play,
—whether as like a feathered dove
or scaly fish—I will not stray.

  1. The Sirens have always fascinated me! What a beautiful poem accentuated by an impeccable artwork choice! I have especially enjoyed the alliteration you incorporated in the verses “and love no more the tasteless tastes / and sightless sights I now abhor.”
