Short: First Things First

“Whatever the price,” I whispered.

“What did you say?” he asked me.

I looked up at him, wondering if the hate could bleed out of my eyes and kill him.

“I’ll do it.”

“What?”

“You heard me.”

“I don’t . . . “

“I said I’ll do it.”

“But . . . “

“Listen, if we don’t stop these animals, everything I love will be chopped up, itemized, and finally digested into their burgeoning empire. The produce of our fields will go to their armies, they’ll press gang our boys, and they’ll probably take Mrs. Milver’s silver too. So, I don’t care a pittance about you and me. We have to stop them. I wouldn’t have come to you if I didn’t know the price.”

    1. Thank you for reading. The basic plot is that genetically engineered soldiers are running rampant and taking over the whole world. These two are old enemies that have to put aside their differences to fight the greater threat.
