Drabble: Blood and Fire

The time has come, the time has passed, and here we are like dead men unable to act. We stand here confused, speechless. What a monstrous thing has been done, and we, seeing it happen, were powerless; like statues of dead warriors, we could not defend our home.

Now is the time, as it always is, but the thing has passed, too great to be stopped.

Now the war must come, it seems. I am no prophet, but I fear that nothing will undo this travesty; we will go mad, and the world will be bathed with blood and fire.
