The thing from the laboratory shambled upon its shaking limbs, its one, giant eye, red and inflamed, staring hatefully at me. It inflated itself, stretching its sagging skin to the brim with air. Then it all came out in one horrible scream. The scream died away and the monster collapsed, hitting the floor with a wet splat.
I waited a few moments before I came over. Dark veins swelled under its pale skin as the poison took hold. The once pink tones faded into a sickly white, and then into an ashy grey. Soon, the corpse began flaking. Collapsing in on itself, the monster turned into a pile of dust.
“One eyeball monster on stilts destroyed,” I called into the radio. Static. “Target neutralized,” I repeated. Static. “Do you copy?” Nothing but static.
“He made it,” a voice echoed from out of the darkness, “without an eyelid.” I lifted my flashlight, searching the corridors around me. “An eyeball with no eyelid,” the voice chuckled. “Some god.”
“Who’s there!” I shouted.
“Rodger,” the radio suddenly piped up. “Proceed on the route.”
