Which Choice, Witch?

Free of freedom and despair
Inner dreams brought on foul air
Return and thank your evil sire
Ever bound in thorny wire

Bring a sacrifice of blood
Unto the monsters of the flood
Ring for them the silent bell
Nettle bound above the well

Ask and you shall not receive
Nod and smile as you please
Don’t let them know what you have seen.

Cast your spells upon the night
Answer kings within their plight
Until the shades of prophets rise
—Let out a scream in your surprise
Dreadful is the love of God
Rampant with a mighty rod
Outer darkness or the light
Nearing now, the choice in sight.

Burst before you find your grave
Utter curses on your cross
But wash your hands before the deed . . .
Beside his mother, the carnage heed
Learn the hope beyond his loss
Even the dead his death will save
