Poem: The Predator’s Eyes

The tiger crouching in the grass
peers through the blades with golden eyes
watching the antelope which pass,
and chooses one to be his prize.

The eagle circling round the sun
whose peerless eyes look through the sheen
of th' waters which beneath him run
dives swift after the fish he's seen.

The crocodile in muddy bank,
his eyes upon the zebra herd,
with sudden splash, his prey he yanks
into the waters which were stirred.

And man, who walks upon the earth,
alike has eyes as these three do
which spy out what to him's of worth
that he might seize upon it too.
