Drabble: Hidden Graves

I heard a sound racing through the trees like a rushing river, a wild and powerful roar. Only I heard, and so I walked alone. I followed the shout into the woods and was lost in the everdark of their canopy. I wandered in that place of shadow untamed by man. I spoke with the crawling ants who gather food underground, and they led me to a place of bones. In the forests are hidden graves of men, and I heard them scream. Their skulls were blackened by fire, for they were burned. For what crime had they been burned?
