Poem: I Am the Man

I’ve not the time to tell a lie
   nor make my meaning plain,
and so I ask, “Look in my eye,”
   see there I’m not insane.

You want my trust but trust me not.
   I’m tired of this game.
Either make clear to me your thought
or live on in your shame.

Then hear the lie, or hear the truth
—I know not which I speak—
I killed a man once in my youth.
I am the man they seek.

  1. I’d give more than a penny for your thoughts–if I could afford it. That being said, whatever the whole meaning is, I did find it interesting. With the first two stanzas I can certainly identify. Oops, gotta go; Cold Case Unit’s on the horn!
