A Little Weird

At first I was thrilled. Amid all the strange Egyptian statues, the obelisk with the softly glowing runes, and that unspeakably unsettling doll whose black, button eyes followed me throughout my host’s “cupboard museum,” as he, oh so wittingly, referred to it, was a coffee machine. I could see the brownish liquid gurgling behind the glass, a black cord leading from the device into a wall socket, and thought some semblance of the mundane would at last provide me an anchor to weather this strange night.

However, it was not, in fact, a coffee machine. I think it had been, once, or at least parts of a coffee machine had been used in its construction. But no, this was not a source to the elixir of life, the blessed brew—it was a human brain.

As I drew closer I saw with a start, floating in a warmed vat of some bubbling fluid, the unmistakable ridges and canyons I’d so often seen in movies, a round lump of fat which we’re told is the seat of all consciousness. It was then I noticed a little display, smaller than that of the screen on a phone, attached to this mess, where, traveling across this lit square, a ribbon of text hurriedly ran.

It was a complete jumble, as far as I could tell, the alphabet of many tongues strewn together in an unconscious stream. My host was quick at my elbow, speaking of how his late wife hated visitors, and that she’d be mortified if she knew I had caught her sleeping. He quietly directed me back toward the doll.

  1. I don’t think I’m quite understanding the navigation element onto the next page so I can understand the gory story line?

        1. I think we all are dorks at times. When I was growing up, there was this weird intersection of cool and dork, and to be cool one had to put on an exaggerated air of being a dork.

          1. I still don’t quite get it though. I know it’s been explained to me. The delineating points between geek nerd dork and loser.. But i dunno. To me you’re either fascinating, interesting, or boring. I wanna be liked but I don’t need it. I just want the people I like to like me haha
