To Truffle

Today we found a little kitten not long for the world. It appeared some violence had been done to it, but now it need never worry about such evils. So I wrote:

And here I say goodbye, barely meeting you. I called you Truffle, for that long-sought fungus comes wherever it wills and is a treasure. You are a treasure; you have enriched my life. Thank you. Dream. Dream pleasant dreams. Sleep. Sleep comfortably.

Thank you for a chance to love, to feel, to be. I’m sorry your life was so short.

The Vets wrote her name so sweetly on the box I took a picture. It is pleasant for me to think that this one little life might not be forgotten, and so I memorialize her here.

    1. Count it not overmuch for me. It was a family effort. Sometimes God sends us to love even the smallest of creatures. It was a moment with a unique life, and I was grateful to have it.
