When Has Trump Gone Too Far?

The Great and Mighty Andrew Klavan, may his head shine forever, deigned to ask a question of us his audience: At what point has Trump gone too far?

This seems a rather improper inquiry as it breaks my emersion, shattering the fourth wall. Just today I described to a friend—one whose political views are unknown to me, though I suspect her of unconscious leftist leanings—how much fun politics has become. In this absurd climate where Hillary Clinton was almost voted into office, the shocking relief of her failed campaign mixed with the entertaining character of Trump has led me to emotionally distance myself to the point where I no longer consider any part of this play real.

I’m not politically savvy, and between jumping from Louder with Crowder to the DailyWire’s podcasts, I have searched primarily for entertainment value, relief from the pressures of life. So, I’ve often thought of our president as something of a Zaphod Beeblebrox, a character meant to annoy the proper British Arthur Dent. Then the question above is presented, and I’m suddenly aware that laws are being passed, children have died, there is a powerful movement working to stifle freedom, and in all truth, Trump is not the star of some comedy broadcast but the executive of these states. The question is like a splash of cold water.

Off the cuff I don’t know, but think I would if it happened.

  1. Howdy Sheldon! Good writing. I might have missed something, but I didn’t see your answer to to the title question of your post. Does that means you want your audience to answer the question? Sounds reasonable. So I will. Trump will have gone too far when he commits an impeachable offence. Perhaps he already has. But of course this offence must be proven. So for now it’s wait and see. Personally, I think he’s gone too far (not impeachably so) in his language and style of communication. I think it’s offensive. Also, I’m concerned that some of my fellow Christians are placing too much faith in Trump (as God’s anointed?), to the point where they are willing to compromise their faith. There are Bible verses that indicate how sneaky our adversary can be: Matthew 24:24 (ESV), “For false Christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.” and 2 Thessalonians 2:11 (ESV), “Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false.” I’m not saying Trump is the anti-Christ, but we should consider that he may be a “strong delusion.” That’s my answer to the main question. I hope I haven’t, uh, “gone too far” with my opinion. Love ya man.
