The Dog and the Door

BY DR. AGONSON

The Dog:

Behold, O man, thy witless end
—precursor Age overshadows;
what once so sharp has been made dull—
and I, hungering, at your door
prepare to swallow up your life.

Replied a Voice:

Be not afraid to face the end;
Prepare to enter this shadow.
What’s that? Fear not, Death’s teeth are dull,
and I, you know, I am the door,
present always, leading to life.
