BY DR. AGONSON
The creek rolled smoothly by like silent thought,
and from the shade, there free of glare, I stared
into its crystal-clear water. I sought
within its shallow depth a sign, and dared
to hope that hidden in the riverbed
somewhere under the mud some sight perchance
of int’rest might foretell of life ahead.
There all I saw was gathered silt, yet trance
took hold. I gazed into the lazy stream.
The water, ever turning, runs along,
and yet unchanged is this eternal theme,
as like some ancient melody or song:
that ever in the land the river flows,
and so stays man though person comes or goes.
Yes, I thought it stood for man/generations passing. Very refreshing!
