No Man Can Flee

BY DR. AGONSON

To his Love:

They came one night. They came for me.
They took me to the hanging tree.
No tears, my love, I had to die.
No tears, my love, you mustn’t cry.
All things become, after a way,
from day to night and night to day,
all things become what they must be;
his destiny no man can flee.

To the Mob:

I’ll come one night, I’ll come for thee.
I’ll come to you o’er land or sea,
a memory you cannot escape
the day you too must meet your fate.
Then dying see my lifeless form
as age your battlements will storm.
So like myself, no hope to flee,
God will judge you as He judged me.
