BY DR. AGONSON
How life from death and death from life and beauty through despair
conspiring to tell the truth though lies infest the air
that nothing really ends what’s good; though darkness blots it out,
still, as the winds drive off a cloud, the Spirit clears the sky
that light return, shine on dark earth, so that new life may sprout.
The paradox remains: who wills to live he wills to die:
if he will live he’ll surely die; if he will die he’ll live.
Though lies evade and evil mar and ugliness despise,
he to the good and true and beautiful himself will give—
through even torture and the grave!—is loved in heaven’s eyes.
And on the dark and dusty earth the light will fall again;
from Pluto’s caverns life returns; the dead are made new men.
