The Screams Fade

She leads me back to our nest of love while I half carry her weight. Lifting her up in my arms, I settle back down on the mess of sheets. We lie there together, holding each other; she reaches down and pulls the covers back over us. Burying her face in my chest, I feel her limp body slowly dissolve into the softness of dreams. Listening to her regular, slow breaths, I gradually fall back into a light doze, fading in and out of consciousness until morning.

As dawn’s light sneaks through the broken blinds, I contemplate my beautiful wife.
