Starting Spooky Season

What’s that? Is that a pumkin? Why are these leaves strewn about the lawn? Where’s my candy corn!

It’s the start of spook season, the first that leads to the thirty-first, Halloween’s herald; October has come.

It's time for a glass of cider and a spooky book,
to see a spider—to take a real look—
and love the monsters that are part of this world.
Her cauldron stirs, in the rising mists, her hair's curled—
The werewolf at the door asks if bones are in store—
The coffin's creak; the vampire sneaks a peak—
The trick o' treaters are coming soon
under the gibbous moon.

Alright, let’s kick this spooky season off! I’ve got one little horror/sci-fi I’m excited to share, and will be writing about all my favorite monsters with total abandon—which is admittedly par for the course on my blog, but now I’m doing it intentionally.
