She stood, her jaw thrust out in a deep frown.
“Ice cream, sappy movie, cry,” I said. “You’ll feel worlds better after a good cry. Then, when you’re feeling better, I think I’ve found two or three clients.”
“Clients!”
“It always helps me to take my mind off of things and focus on work.”
“Work! How can you…?” she couldn’t find the words.
“I’ve fallen in love too, but they die and we don’t. There’s no magic kiss that can make him one of us. Believe me, I’ve looked. He’s a good man with a good life that’s not yours.”
