In the Dear Dark

The tiger coils in the dark,
his eyes are emerald flames.
In lightless seas there swims the shark;
his hunger no soul tames.
The watchful owl waits in the night,
no mercy in its glare.
In starless space a nameless fright
infects the dreamers' air.
I find such beauty in the three,
the fourth, though, I deplore.
They kill in Heaven, Earth, and Sea;
this last infests the poor.
