Justice & Mercy: Lifted Up

He hugged the little girl a little tighter and prayed to the God he hated and cursed, begging that distant tyrant to show some mercy, not for himself, not to deliver him from this Hell he’d made, but for her, for this child, that something might redeem her stolen innocence. He tore his eyes away from his handiwork and ran out the door while her angel carried his twisted, half formed thoughts far away from this darkness unto a throne of pure and radiant light. The girl was returned to horrified parents who would not learn until the morning news.
