I can't afford to dream again;
to see the visions just once more
would tantalize me into sin
and let the demon in my core.
I have not slept in thirty years;
my restless spirit wanders on,
and though heaven must see my tears,
no mercy new comes with the dawn.
Where ends this trap of pleasure,
this phantomed maze of wants?
I once here sought some treasure…
that nameless hope still haunts.
