From the Archives: On Second Chances

So, I have been rereading The King in Yellow, or, more accurately, I read it some years ago and have recently been listening to an audio version. The point, if there is one, is this: when I first read the book, I was a little disappointed. Sure, there were some good bits, but it wasn’t masterful. The last few entries can’t even be called horror stories; they’re short romances (the horror!) However, listening to it again, I find I am more intrigued. Maybe it’s the narrator, Ian Gordon, or maybe I didn’t appreciate The King in Yellow as I should have the first time.

I like the narrator’s style, nevertheless, and am planning on letting him take me through The House on the Borderland next (another book I feel deserves a second look.)

* Are there any books (or other media) you were glad you gave a second chance to?

* Or is there anything you’re planning on revisiting?

* Do you find you enjoy some books better as audio books than in print?
