Earned Rest?

“The days of darkness will be many, but you and I are accustomed to the dark. I will not allow you to drag these—they are really just children—into your madness. I know I can’t stop what you are, but at least I can slow you down. I once was a man. Man was once a child. Even I was innocent once.”

Tentacles and barbed chains embraced, breaking and tearing each other as the chthonic titans met. The sea raged, and the earth shook. Thus have the dreams come finally to an end, and I have learned to rest.
