Well, it’s Towel Day. I cannot overstate how much The Guide meant to me as a child. Strangely enough, without knowing the occasion, I rewatched the Disneyfied version last night mainly because I had a line from the show stuck in my head all week; just the phrase, “None at all,” playing over and over again.
It drove me crazy because I couldn’t remember what the context was other than that The Guide’s voice was about to break in and say, “By a strange coincidence, none at all was precisely—” but there my memory failed.
None at all of course is the amount of suspicion Arthur Dent had that his friend, Ford Prefect, was not from Guildford but was actually from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse. “Arthur Dent had never, ever suspected this.”
I myself have a suspicion, more of a feeling, let us say, that there is something I do not suspect, something obvious I’m missing. It’s a nagging sensation that’s been dogging me for months. Oh well. The Guide has advice for this as well: Don’t Panic.
