Dear Reader: Over the Next Few Days

Dear Reader,

I will be away from the blog for a week or so. I’ve got some pre-written posts ready to be automatically published over my absence. Most of them will involve a character named Clarence. His is a tale I hope to tell in more detail at a later date. This short series of drabbles is something of his backstory. As such, I fear it is incomplete and will be unsatisfactory to the reader. However, as my blog is a monument to incomplete and unfinished work, I’m sure it will fit right in. I hope your Christmas was a merry one and that your new year will be blessed. Clarence himself has taken on some of the characteristics of a professor of mine, someone I hold in great esteem, an imagined younger version of him. He, the man, has not been given long to live. Please pray for him. He is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met, someone who has been hurt deeply in life but is kind and filled with an enthusiasm for the subjects he loves, an enthusiasm that was infectious and, at times, maddening. If I do not see him again in life, I still hope to sign up for his classes the first day of Heaven. (As he’s not Catholic, I wonder how he’ll feel with his character being handed a rosary?)
