Logic of Pain

Pain consumed him. It burned from his head to his feet, like some sort of explosion. There was no time under the machine’s ray, only boiling, searing heat. Then, eternity passed, and the light of the ray dimmed to naught. He fell where he stood, shivering, as a black smoke rose from him.

“Is that…the best…you got?” he coughed out. Slowly, he struggled to stand. Coming onto his hands and knees, he looked over at the electronic eye. It stared unblinking at him.

“Pain?” he mocked. “You can’t even feel it, and you don’t know how to use it either.”
