What Was

The shape shuffled forward with heavy steps as the rain fell. In such a city where the ebb and flow of the galaxy passed through, such strange sights as himself would go unnoticed. His abnormalities, in a sea of abnormalities, just meant he seemed like some as-of-yet-unfamiliar-creature on this planet, not a resident, not, no one would take him for, a human. At least, he was a human. What parts remained to him, some strips of his brain, cut thin and stretched out on glass, barely qualified as biological matter. Whatever remained of his humanity was unrecognizable, even to himself.
