A Hard Road

I walked a long and weary road to find you here beneath the earth, beneath a stone, beneath your name. I found your grave. I felt such shame. I wept, for we would never weep, would never smile, would never keep a promise made to reunite. I’d thought I’d come to burry spite, to make amends, but now it tends—a longer road, it still awaits. I’ll walk a lifetime ere we meet, ere we defeat our broken hearts.

But here, for now, a little time, I’ll stay. I’ll make a rhyme, for reason’s gone into the earth with you.
