The Deadly Charms of Zalu’um

The deadly charms of Zalu'um
the white tipped banners, the horrid hum,
the minstrels with their doubled face
the spectral dance, the silent grace
and dreams that no one knows are dreams—
the constructed men, their oozing seams.

I cannot tell you all I saw
my broken mind is filled with straw
They took my brains, they took my eyes,
hollowed me out, filled me with lies.

What charms, Zalu'um, my queen of death,
did you use to steal my breath?
My lungs, my heart, my bowels, you stole,
yet somehow, I've retained my soul.
