No Answer Came

“I couldn’t believe what I knew was true, and so I went mad, for a time. For a time, for a blessed few years, I was in the grip of delirium as I tried, in vain, to reconnect the dots in some other way that wouldn’t point back to you.

“Now I have to face it, face you, ask you…I have to know why.”

But no answer came up from the frozen earth which had covered her all these years. He would never understand what he knew, that she loved him more than life itself, loved him enough to kill.
