Grinning

I killed a man and learned to grin.
Better smile than show your sin,
for once the tears begin
few can rein them in.

I hid it all under a smile
watched them squirm throughout the trail,
but for a little while
I forgot my guile.

And then the tears came pouring out.
Hit my heart, strange pangs of doubt.
I heard my own voice shout:
I 'twas brained the lout!
