Magician’s Bargain

We question what is right so we can do our wrong
and so have lost our sight of that for which we long.
We sought to rule the earth, but cannot rule ourselves.
We thought we'd be masters—less than, we're passions' slaves.

I know no hidden verse
that may yet lift this curse.
Magician's bargain made
cruel chains that will not fade.
