A Comic Sketch

The end of all mockers is this: they can no longer hear the other side. So, even if, for the moment, they’ve landed on something actually absurd, they ruin their insight because they can’t hear the answer over their own laughter. In the end, they are not seeing their opponent, only their own image of their opponent, and, that image being their own, when they mock it, they only mock themselves.

There is perhaps a time to mock, but the mocker should always beware his own understanding. The absurd is often revealed to be misunderstood, and the mocker never learns.
