The Last Immortal

Twenty men have gone to dream
and I cannot say what that means.
Nineteen men were said to scream,
the last was muted by machines.

The dreamers keep the world awake.
I fear that it's a grand mistake
to keep alive this one who's dead
forever in hospital's bed.

Mystery and grand designs—
but all I see's a fearful crime.
Greater good and all such lines
will not conquer conscience this time.

I'll let the world fall into night.
I'll damn it all and do what's right.
The earth may fall into the void,
but this foul thing must be destroyed.
