Thoughts on “The Vault of Horror”

So, I had a little fun and watched an old movie I’d found on YouTube, The Vault of Horror (1973). I mainly did this because Tom Baker was in it. It’s just a few vignettes with a fairly obvious overarching narrative to bring them all together.

What gets me about it, though, is that only one of the stories bothered me, that is, had me curling up in my chair and wanting to leave the show. The others were all wonderfully morbid, and I enjoyed every drop of blood.

The one that bothered me was about a guy hounding his wife into madness. It hurt to watch; I felt so bad for her, I couldn’t wait for him to get his desserts.

Anyway, the whole thing is wonderfully hokey and fun. I just think it provided an interesting insight into my own person: I laughed at the bloody murders wanting more, but I couldn’t stand that poor woman being heckled by her obnoxious husband.
