The Forest’s Beast

Below the green topped trees
where all is dark as night, 
a man sees what he sees
and quickly takes to flight. 

Under those shadowed boughs
is something none can name, 
and I am bound by vows
to bag it for my game. 

But who can kill the forest's beast
when all who find it die?
And who can make of it a feast
or learn where it may lie?
