Abel’s Walk

“I have seen the beginning and the end. The Stars have burned and the darkness returns!” The pitch of his voice and the speed at which he spoke rose with every word until his shrill exclamation suddenly gave way to silence. With a heavy sigh, he fell back into his chair.

“Sorry,” he said. “I seem to have lost my train of thought.”

“No worries. I was just wondering if you wanted anything?”

“What?”

“I’m headed to the store.”

“No, I’m good,” he said. He looked so tired. “I’m just…a little…”

“You need rest,” I said. “You’ve seen a lot.”
