Feeling sick. Here’s something I wrote for The Story Club.
I have a fifteen year old dog. She’s aging “gracefully” according to the veterinarians, but there’s one sign of her years that troubles me. I no longer feel safe taking her for walks near the road because she has the odd quirk of taking abrupt turns into the street. If I set her loose in the yard, she’ll walk in circles forever.
She’s not in any pain, she’s not suffering, she just walks in a circle. If you call her, she can’t get to you. She’ll start walking toward you, suddenly veer off, and soon she’s going in circles again. I think she’s lost her sense of direction. Some call it “doggy dementia.”
Considering this, it came into my mind that I too walk in circles, that is, I write the same thing over and over again. There’s a certain story that I’ve written probably five times now, and stopped myself from writing many times over.
* Do any of you get caught in the rut of telling the same story again and again?
* Why do you think this happens?
