‘Twas There

You know the truth of what was said,
that I, alive, was once found dead,
breathless and cold within my bed.
'Twas there I learned of things ahead.

I fear to tell all that I saw,
how terrible Death's open maw,
how ever on those worms will gnaw…
'Twas there I found the dreadful law.

An ancient pillar, timeless, stands,
a stone, uncut by human hands,
which upholds all these overlands.
'Twas there I heard its dread commands.

What's etched in stone must surely be,
a fate not you nor I can flee,
but one I have been cursed to see.
'Twas there I learned all that will be.
