They came out of holes, out of cracks, and pits,
they slunk out of shadows, crevices, and splits,
they crept and they creeped through the dark of the night;
while we slept, they all leaped—and oh what a fight!
With a crash and a bang and a holler and yell,
with a punch and a kick, with a scream and a howl,
we all fought for our lives, our eyes blind in the dark,
while they taunted and played with a laugh like a bark.
And they took us away into their dank dens,
and they made us their slaves—threw us into pens—
and we have never returned unto our own lands
nor found any key to unlock these bands.
