The Monster Sleeps

He dreams below the waters deep
and sometimes tosses in his sleep;
then all the dreamers feel a fright
from the visions of the night.

We sought the truth, though we were lost,
and fought the lies at quite the cost,
but we none stood upon the waves;
here, we sank into our graves.

And deep in death there’s still a dream,
a nightmare, an eternal scream,
and how we all still long to wake,
lest our souls he finally take.
